SA Girls’ Champion 15-year old Bianca Theron picked up the first Women’s Golf championship trophy of 2012 when she won the Boland Junior Championships on a three over par 147 (73, 74). The event was played at Kuils River Golf Club this week. She finished five strokes clear of Woodhill’s Ruzanne van der Walt (76, 76) and Lara Weinstein (73, 79) from Glendower.

Former Limpopo player, Lynn-Marie Nagel who is studying at Utah Valley University, sent an email with good wishes to WGSA. This may be of interest to other SA juniors who wish to study at colleges in the USA.

As we enter 2012, Women’s Golf South Africa welcomes incoming secretary Christine Dempers to the executive.

Lara Weinstein and Izel Pieters return to South Africa today, only to return to the USA in two weeks. They have been invited to compete in the annual Annika Invitational to be played at the Reunion Resort in Florida from 13 to 16 January where will be accompanied by their fathers, Deryck Weinstein and Koos Pieters.

Connie wrote to WGSA sending good wishes for the festive season and confirmed that she has full exemption on the Ladies European Tour in 2012.

Lora Assad played a third consecutive round of 77 at the Gate American Junior Masters to finish best of the SA girls tied seventh on +15 (231). Austrian Marina Stutz increased her lead with a fine one under 71 in the final round to win the event on +2, 218 (74, 73, 71).

The boys’ championship was won by USA’s Cody Proveaux on -5 211 (68, 74, 69) with SA’s Haydn Porteus in eighth position on +1 217 (74, 74, 69).

Eight South African Juniors arrived at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida yesterday to compete in the Gate American Junior being played from 20 to 22 December. The players are Lara Weinstein, Izel Pieters, Cara Gorlei, Stephanie Perkins, Lora Assad, Jonathan Botha, Matt Bright and Haydn Porteus.

Two Swedish junior girls, including Lynn Carlsson, winner of the 2011 Harder German Masters, visited South Africa last week and played friendly matches against some of our juniors.

Pictured here are Carrie Park and Magda Kruger who played against the Swedes at The Els Club in Pretoria, and earlier in the week, Kelly Erasmus and Leanke Vlok (no longer a junior) competed against the visitors.

Five time winner on the European Ladies Golf Tour and 2011 Henderson Order of Merit winner Lee-Anne Pace, along with LET Tour winner Anne-Lise Caudal took time out from their training to coach the girls of Webervallei Primary Golf Development Program.

Michaela Fletcher, with a final round of 74, finished in 3^rd position and the SA team were delighted that at least one of the South African’s was able to bring home a trophy from the 3rd Albatross Inernational Junior Championship played in New Delhi this week.

Western Province junior Johann Germishuys finished in sixth position, eight shots off the leader going into the final round of the 3rd Albatross International Junior Championship being play in New Delhi this week.

With two under par rounds of 69 and 70 (139), Namibia's Bonita Bredenhann topped the leader board at the Mpumalanga Championships played on Saturday and Sunday at Walker Park. She finished four strokes ahead of joint runners-up SA Stroke Play Champion Kim Williams and Henriette Frylinck on 143.
