Connie wins final Provincial event at Witbank

SA Junior Connie Chen won the Mpumalanga Open Championship on a one over par 143 (70, 73) followed by Nicole Becker three strokes back on 146 (73, 73) when this event was played at Witbank Golf Club on 14 and 15 November.

Alana van Greuning won the Closed Championship with a 78 and 75 and Izel Pieters won the best nett with an overall 142 nett. Connie Chen also won the Best Junior trophy and Elsa Loubser won the best Senior trophy.

14-Year old Alexis Thompson, topping the Women's leaderboard with 17 birdies, was instrumental in the USA's seven stroke victory at The Spirit played at Whispering Pines, Trinity, Texas this week.

Thompson became only the second golfer after Lorena Ochea in 2001 and Paula Creamer in 2003 to take home three golds: team, women's team, and individual.

Paula Creamer's USA team are really fired up and had a great run on Day Two to be in the lead at 25 under par at the half-way stage of The Spirit. This biennial tournament is being played this week at Whispering Pines Golf Club at Trinity, Texas. The South African Team of Kim Williams, Yvette du Plessis, Dylan Frattelli and Leon Knoll are now 10 under and lying in 13th position. The teams enjoyed a Texan Cookout on their first evening at Camp Olympia.
