Kim Daniels wins the SA Girls’ Rose Bowl

Uitenhage’s 15-year old Kim Daniels won the SA Girls’ Rose Bowl at Clovelly Country Club this week when she carded 228 (80, 76, 72) to finish one stroke ahead of overnight leader Zayb Kippie from Royal Cape – 229 (80, 69, 76). Izel Pieters finished third on 230 (75, 80, 75).

Iliska victorious at Durban Country Club

Iliska Verwey claimed her second consecutive provincial championship at the famous Durban Country Club on Sunday 27 March. She finished on four under 142 (69, 73) five shots clear of runner-up Kim William to win the KwaZulu Natal championship. Only a week ago, she had picked up the Stroke Play and Match Play trophies at the Western Province Championships.

Iliska wins the double at Clovelly

Former Eastern Cape star Iliska Verwey clinched the double at the Western Province Championships when she overcame top-ranked Kim Williams 4/3 in the 18-hole final played at Clovelly Country Club this week. She had previously carded a second round course record 66 when she won the stroke play championship on Sunday.

Three South African juniors have been generously sponsored with air tickets to Poland, enabling them to play in the next WJGS event. They are Paarl’s Armandt Scholtz, winner of the Kenako SA Junior Masters boys’ championship, Kim Daniels from Uitenhage and Lwazi Gqira from East London.

Armandt Scholtz and Claudia Lim, the overnight leaders in the Boys and Girls Competitions respectively, held onto to win the 54 hole inaugural KeNako South African World Juniors on Thursday. And Lara Weinstein, knowing that she needed a birdie on the final hole, did just that and finished tied second with Sweden’s Linnea Ström.

South Africa's Armandt Scholtz and Claudia Lim from Australia lead the Boys and Girls Competitions respectively going into Thursday’s final round of the 54 hole inaugural KeNako South African World Juniors being played at Kingswood Golf Estate, George this week.

South Africa’s Lara Weinstein started well in the Girls Competition getting to four under par for her round at the turn. However a double bogey and two bogeys coming home put paid to any chance the Glendower Golf Club player had of taking the outright lead.

TWENTY COUNTRIES REPRESENTED IN KENAKO SA WORLD JUNIORS

Players from twenty countries, including South Africa, have entered the KeNako South African World Juniors, according to Erica Lefson, the Tournament Director.

The 54 hole stroke play tournament, which is to be played from 8 to 10 March 2011 at Kingswood Golf Estate in George, has attracted entries from eighty five boys and thirty girls all of whom are nineteen years of age or younger.

Both Lara Weinstein and Izel Pieters returned good scores during the second round of the Annika Invitation being played at the Reunion Resort in Florida, USA this week. Lara is tied ninth after another one-over 73 - the first time SA has had a player in the top10 ten - and after a nervous first round, Izel Pieters came back to record a good four-over 76 on this very difficult course.

Cradock’s Iliska Verwey picked up the Eastern Cape Match Play Championship with a 4/3 victory over Vryburg’s Nicole Becker in the 18-hole final played at Port Elizabeth Golf Club yesterday afternoon. Earlier in the day Iliska had beaten Nicole Fourie 6/4 while Nicole Becker won a closely fought match against Tanica van As at the 19th.

Good start for Kim in 2011.

Top ranked Kim Williams picked up the first 2011 senior provincial championship trophy on Sunday when she scored a one-under 143 (68, 75) to win the Eastern Cape Women’s Stroke Play Championship played at Port Elizabeth Golf Club.
