WGSA Secretary Paddy Goodwin retires in April 2012 and with the growth in Women’s Golf over the past five years it has been decided to split the current position of SECRETARY into two positions.

Top SA Junior Lara Weinstein continued her recent good form to win the Durban Regional Championships played at Mount Edgecombe Country Club yesterday. Playing in superb KZN winter weather with only a slight breeze off the sea, the teenager returned a four over 148 to win the event by two strokes from Alana van Greuning. Continuing the form displayed at the Astor Trophy when she won all her singles matches and defeated the world number one amateur in the world, Kim Williams lifted the Gauteng North Match Play Trophy yesterday, having won the Stroke Play Trophy earlier in the week.

South Africa’s top-ranked Kim Williams claimed the Gauteng North Women’s 54 hole stroke play championship by a massive 10 shots after carding a brilliant three-under 69 in what can only be described as miserable conditions at Centurion County Club yesterday.

The South African team of Nicole Garcia, Nicole Becker and Alana van Greuning won the third Regional All Africa Challenge Trophy by two strokes from Zimbabwe when it was played in Harare last week.

South African Rookie Connie Chen recorded her best results of the European professional season when she finished in seventh place in the LET Finair Masters played at Helsinki Golf Club, Tali, Finland yesterday.

Former Free State and Northern Cape President Carina Theron won the 2011 Senior Ladies Championship by 10 strokes from Mpumalanga’s Melrise Ungerer when the event was played in June at Woodhill and Wingate Park Country Clubs.

Returning two great rounds of 75, 71 (146) on the tough Ledgends course, top SA ranked junior, Lara Weinstein walked away with the 2011 Limpopo Ladies Open played on 18 and 19 June.

Five strokes back was Mpumalanga’s Alana van Greuning, one ahead of Nicole Bekker on 152.

Nomads National Chairman John Lees travelled from Nelspruit to Orkney today to present the Jenny Bruce Trophy to the new South African girls’ champion. 14-year old Bianca Theron from Kuils River Golf Club in the Boland won the event by six strokes from two other under 16 girls, Carrie Park (Gauteng North) and Kelly Erasmus (Western Province).

Topping the leader-board at the Nomads SA Girls Championship being played at Orkney Golf Club on two-over par 74 are Gauteng’s Lara Weinstein and Bianca Theron from Boland. And tied in third position are Kelly Erasmus (WP) and Carrie Park (Gauteng North).

Leading the B Division (10 to 18 handicaps) and tied 12^th in the tournament overall is Harrismith Golf Club’s Zanele Mazibuko. Playing off a 12 handicap, she returned an 80 and the low net score of the day – 68.

SA Top Junior Lara Weinstein returned to the winners’ podium when she won the Limpopo Women’s Championships played at the spectacular Ledgends course on 18 and 19 June.

Great Britain and Ireland retained the Astor Trophy on 19.5 points after an exciting final day at Fairhaven Golf Club. Trailing 0-2 from the morning foursomes, captain Tegwen Matthews’ team of five – Kelly Tidy, Amy Boulden, Holly Clyburn, Kelsey MacDonald and Pamela Pretswell picked four of the singles encounters to win 4 & 3. Favourites New Zealand was runner-up on 16 points.

South Africa with 13 points finished in third place, ahead of Australia (12) and Canada (9.5).

South Africa bounced back from a 6-1 defeat by GB and I to beat Canada 5 ½-1 ½ on Day 3 of the Astor Trophy tournament at Fairhaven GC, Lancashire.

Top-ranked South African Kim Williams aced her tee-shot at 10 and went on to defeat the World No 1 Lydia Ko, but SA lost 4.5 - 2.5 to favourites, New Zealand.
