Colin Burger was elected the new president of the South African Golf Association (SAGA) at the Association's Annual General Meeting held in Pretoria on Wednesday night. Burger will take over from the current incumbent, Enver Hassen, as from Saturday 25 September 2010

Central Gauteng threw down the gauntlet and made their intentions crystal clear with 10 splendid points on day one of the 50^th South African Inter Provincial at Pretoria Country Club.

Team captain Ryan Dreyer, who led his team to a 4-0 whitewash in the foursomes and six victories in the singles against Free State and Northern Cape, said: “We didn’t come here to pick up where we left off last year. We came to win and the team delivered the kind of start I expected.

Defending champions Kwa-Zulu Natal are hunting an eighth title when the 50^th edition of the South African Inter Provincial tees off at Pretoria Country Club from 20-24 September.

“We are as ready as can be expected,” said team captain Ryan de Beer. “I think we will surprise a lot of people who don’t rate us, just because the tournament is being played inland this year.

South African Hayden Porteous (pictured on the far right along with the rest of the SA contingent from left to right: Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Thriston Lawrence, Errol Taylor (manager) and Shane Allan) who won the second playing of this tournament in 2008, showed his class once again with a third place finish on a score of 296 (+4). Porteous lead for the first three rounds of the championship until a final round of 77 left him in a tie for third, one shot behind the winner.

Some of the country’s avid golfers took part in the 2010 Old Mutual International Pairs National Finals, held from 16 until 19 August at Zebula Golf Estate and Spa, located in Bela Bela in Limpopo.

The S.A. Senior Amateur Golf Association sent a 10 man side to the UK, primarily to play, as individuals, in the British Senior Amateur Open at Walton Heath Golf Club. The team departed on Mon 2 August and consisted of the ten top players from the SASAGA Order of Merit, namely, Jock Wellington, Tim Hewan, Robbie Meier, Andy Ostle, Anton Vortsman, Gavin Van Aswegen, Dirk Swanevelder, Brian Lottering, Jonathan Hobday and Steve Cullen.

Brandon Stone who playes golf out of Gardener Ross, Gauteng North, won for the second time this year as he held on to win the Southern Cape Open at Mossel Bay Golf Club by two shots from a charging Riekus Nortje.

Durban Country Club will host the 100^th playing of the South African Open Championship from 16-19 December 2010. This was confirmed by the South African Golf Association and Dlamini Weil Communications, the new promoters of South Africa’s flagship golf tournament.

The South African Golf Association (SAGA) announced the names of the three players to represent South Africa in the biennial World Amateur Team Championships. The team is Dylan Frittelli, Dean O’Riley and JG Claassen .

It is not often that the current South African Amateur Champion’s name appears on the Open Championship leader board. Laurie Canter (England) managed to qualify for golf's premier championship.

The Limpopo Amateur Open was held at Koro Creek from 9 - 11 July 2010. A total of 157 entries were received and a pre-qualifying round was held the day before the tournament proper began.

The Koro Creek golf course played host to its first tournament of this magnitude since it underwent a redesign and a name change from what used to be called the Nylstroom golf club.
