Reigning South African Stroke Play champion Haydn Porteous overcame damaging middle rounds to tie for second at the Carrick Neill Scottish Stroke Play Championship at Kilmarnock in Barassie, Scotland on Sunday.

South Africa’s Haydn Porteous took full advantage of gloriously sunny conditions on the Scottish west coast lay down an early marker at the Carrick Neill Scottish Stroke Play Championship. In an opening round that featured two eagles, the reigning SA Stroke Play champion fired an eight-under-par 65 to open up a two stroke lead on the field at Kilmarnock.

Dylan Frittelli, who has recently finished his four year stint in College in America, finds himself as the 9th ranked Amateur on the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), a system run by the R&A.

The Kwazulu Natal Amateur has been moved to Port Shepstone due to damaged greens at Sanlameer.

Alternate accommodation may be needed as from Sanlameer to Port Shepstone is 33km (closer to Durban).

Central Gauteng claimed a crucial one point final round victory over a SA Junior Golf side to come up trumps in this year’s SA Challenge Inter-Provincial, but it was the eight development players from the Presidents Team who stole the show at Cullinan Golf Club on Friday.

The Challenge and SA Country Districts Inter Provincial Tournaments finish tomorrow at Cullinan Golf Club (one of South Africa's premier 9 hole courses) and Polokwane Golf Club respectively.

Challenge Inter Provincial Tournament

For a 12^th time since the Africa Zone VI Golf Championships launched in 2000, the South African team were simply superior and successfully wrapped up their title defence at Lilongwe Golf Club in Malawi.

The South African team continued their winning march with another solid performance on day two of this year’s Africa Zone VI Golf Championships at Lilongwe Golf Club in Malawi.

Having launched their title defence with a white wash in the opening Singles on Tuesday, the eight man squad extended their lead on day two, opening up a substantial gap with seven victories in the second round Foursomes and Betterball matches.

The South African team made a solid start to their title defence at this year’s Africa Zone VI Golf Championships at Lilongwe Golf Club in Malawi with positive results in all eight opening singles matches.“I think we reaped the rewards of a team that was strong from one to eight,” said South African Golf Association president, Colin Burger.

The South African Golf Association (SAGA) announced a six-man team that will compete in three international events in Scotland between 28 May and 25 June, as well as a test against the Scottish Golf Union’s Mens Squad. The team consists of the country’s number two ranked player, Haydn Porteous, as well as CJ du Plessis, Shaun Smith, Gert Myburgh and Drikus Bruyns, currently ranked fourth to seventh on the SAGA Rankings, and 10th ranked JP Strydom.

Amateur golfers from around the country have gathered for this year’s South African U-23 Inter-Provincial Championship at Nelspruit Golf Club and were delighted when the Minister of Sport and Recreation, Fikile Mbalula, put it an unexpected appearance at the official opening on Sunday.

The South African Golf Association (SAGA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Little as National Junior and Senior Golf Coordinator and Junior Golf Development Officer from April 1, 2012.

Convincing win for Zander at the North West Open Strokeplay Championships

Over the past six weeks, the Scottish Golf Union National Men’s Squad has had a highly successful run competing on South Africa’s amateur circuit.

The visitors not only won a Test against South Africa at Leopard Creek and beat a South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) team and an SA Junior side at the annual Triangular at Randpark, but Brian Soutar also clinched the country’s most prestigious amateur title when he beat Brandon Stone in a tightly contested battle at the Sanlam SA Amateur Championship at Mowbray Golf Club.

Soweto’s Musi Nethunzwi and Gert Myburgh from Benoni will make their debut in South Africa’s title defence at the Africa Zone VI Golf Championships in Malawi while four of the country’s top junior golfers will fly the flag for South Africa at the All-Africa Junior Golf Championship in Botswana this April.

For a second successive year, the Scottish flag was raised at the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship after Fife golfer Brian Soutar beat South Africa’s Brandon Stone for the country’s most coveted amateur title on Friday.
