There are still two rounds left and lots of golf to be played, but a resurgent Boland and gritty Western Province side threw the 52^nd South African Inter-Provincial Championship wide open on Wednesday. Central Gauteng had plotted a course for their title defence with positive results against Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal over the first two days, while Gauteng North stayed close behind. But now the tournament has developed a distinct three-way split and is heading for an almighty showdown.

The reigning SA Stroke Play champion opened with a one-over-par 72 on the New Course, but a four-under-par 68 at the Old Course lifted the 17-year-old to a share of third at the halfway point.

Dutchman Daan Huizing got off to a flying start and left the field in his wake while Boland golfer Drikus Bruyns was the top performer for the six-man South African squad touring Scotland in round one of the St Andrews Links Trophy.
