Player to captain SA Olympic golf team
Gary Player has been named captain of South Africa’s first Olympic golf team that will compete at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Player’s Olympic captaincy was made official by the South African Golf Association (SAGA), the governing body for golf in the country.
“Gary is our greatest golfer and one of this country’s greatest ambassadors,” said Gerhard Conradie, President of the SAGA.

Gauteng North’s Keegan de Lange made South African golfing history as the first South African junior to contest the Boys Amateur Championship final in North West England.
The 18-year-old Pretoria golfer will face Sweden’s Marcus Svenssonn in the 36-hole final for the title at Royal Birkdale on Sunday.

South Africa's Keegan de Lange defeated Billy Spooner from England at the 19th hole to reach the semi-final of the 89th Boys Amateur Championship at Royal Birkdale. The 18-year-old Pretoria Country Club junior will face Martin Torre Borja from Spain in the semi-final.

Sentanio Minnie held off a spirited challenge from Gauteng North’s Dylan Mostert to claim his first national title with an eight stroke victory in the Africa Junior Open on Sunday.

The 17-year-old Ekurhuleni junior overcame a rough start to sign for a 74 and will carry a two stroke lead over Lones into the final round after the Southern Cape closed with a 76.
