SA juniors Kyle McClatchie and Kaleigh Telfer will make local golfing history as South Africa’s first golfing Olympians at the Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in China next month.
The South African Golf Association (SAGA) and Womens Golf South Africa (WGSA) are proud to announce that McClatchie from Ekurhuleni and Telfer from Gauteng were named to Team SA and will be among the 54 athletes that will represent South Africa in Nanjing from 16-28 August.

South Africa’s Luca Filippi claimed a top 12 finish at the Junior Open Championship to top the African leaderboard while Kaleigh Telfer claimed a share of 80th in the prestigious biennial championship, presented by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A).

Telfer from Gauteng tied for 35^th on nine over 81, while Filippi from the Western Province carded a two-over-par 74 for a share of fourth in the prestigious biennial championship, presented by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A).

Womens Golf South Africa (WGSA) has selected Michaela Fletcher, Monja Richards and Cara Gorlei to fly the flag for South Africa in the Espirito Santo Trophy at the World Amateur Team Championships in Japan this September.

Western Province junior Cara Gorlei established herself as real title contender when she claimed her second victory in as many weeks at the Gauteng North Championship on Monday.
Fresh from a three-way play-off victory at the prestigious Nomads SA Girls Championship in Orkney, Gorlei notched her third title this season with a two stroke victory on four-over-par 223 after rounds of 74, 73 and 76 at Wingate Park Country Club.
