The first round of morning foursomes at the 51st South African Inter-Provincial delivered some surprising results at Bloemfontein Golf Club.

A stiff breeze run danced in the trees dotted around the course at Bloemfontein Golf Club this morning, but not even the chilly weather could dampen the spirits as the challenge for the South African Inter-Provincial, sponsored by Tempest, teed off.

The Western Province and Gauteng North teams kept a respectful distance between them during today’s South African Inter-Provincial practice session, but you could still cut the tension at Bloemfontein Golf Club with a knife.

Defending champions Western Province are hunting a seventeenth South African Inter-Provincial title when the South African Golf Association’s premier team competition tees off at Bloemfontein Golf Club from September 19-23.

A dozen of South Africa’s top amateur golfers will be flying the South African flag at three international golf events this October and November.

Dylan Frittelli's got eliminated from the US Amateur in the round of 32 players when he came up against Peter Uihlein. Frittellli who played solid golf in the second round of the qualifying stroke play, to record a 66, and in the first round of the match play, didnt produce his best golf when he came up against the defending US Amateur Champion.

After a second round 66 in the qualifying round to get into the last 64 of the 111th US Amateur in Wisconsin, Dylan Frittelli made short work of his first round opponent as he defeated Jim Markovitz of Pennsylvania 5 and 4.

Dylan Frittelli, the only South African in the US Amateur being played at Erin Hills, Winsconsin, followed his opening round 76 (4 over) with a superb 66 (6 under) round to move 100 positions down the leadership and secure his place in the top 64 and the Match Play section of the 11th US Amateur Championships.

CJ du Plessis, of Limpopo played stirling golf to pip local boy Riekus Nortje in he Southern Cape Open for 2011 which was held at the Knysna Golf Club.

The South African Golf Association (SAGA) mourns the passing of one of it’s former Presidents, Cecil Wells.

Aged 81, Cecil passed away in Pretoria on Thursday 7 July after a short illness.

Jared Harvey, the 2011 South African Stroke Play Champion, continued his rich vein of over the past few months when he finished in a tie for 5th at The Berkshire Trophy held in Ascot, west of London (UK), this past weekend.

Georgia Tech, the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference men's golf champion, led the way by placing four players, including Kyle Scott of South Africa, on the 2011 All-ACC men's golf team, and head coach Bruce Heppler was named Coach of the Year in the conference as selected by a vote of the league's head coaches.
