Strydom moves in at Argentina Stroke Play
South Africa’s number one ranked Tristen Strydom carded a one-under-par 69 in the second round of the Argentine Stroke Play Championship to move into the top 12 at Tortugas Country Club.
Strydom tied for 12th on even-par 140, and lags four strokes behind 36-hole pacesetter, Jarryd Felton from Australia.
Solid start for SA at Argentina Stroke Play Championship
South Africa got their preparation for the upcoming Southern Cross Invitational in Argentina off to a solid start in the opening round of the Argentine Stroke Play Championship on Thursday. Australia’s Cory Crawford was on target with a five-under-par 65. The Sanctuary Cove player leads by two from Argentina’s Jose Chon and Jeremy Gandon from France, while Gerlou Roux took point for the South African team in the curtain-raiser.
SA team named for All-Africa Junior Golf Championship
A team of four of South Africa’s top juniors will take up the country’s title defence in the prestigious All-Africa Junior Golf Championships in Zambia this May.
The South African Golf Association (SAGA) selected Keegan de Lange from Gauteng North, Boland’s Herman Loubser and Central Gauteng pair Marco Steyn and Dylan Naidoo to represent the country in Africa’s most prestigious junior team championship.

South Africa’s Altin van der Merwe beat Finland’s Ilari Saulo by two strokes to claim the Boys Division in the Curro South Africa Juniors International, while Swiss amateur Azelia Meichtry denied 2014 winner Kaleigh Telfer from South Africa a repeat victory in the Girls Division of the Global Junior Golf Tour event at Durbanville Golf Club on Thursday.

Eagle Canyon’s Woo-Ju Son leads the South African charge in the Girls Division of the Curro South African Juniors International (SAJI), while Free State golfer Steven le Roux blazed a trail to the top of the Boys Division leaderboard at the 36-hole mark in the Global Junior Golf Tour event at Durbanville Golf Club on Wednesday.
Sherriff, Meichtry take early pole in SAJI
Michael Sherriff took early control in the Boys Division of the Curro South African Juniors International (SAJI), while Azelia Meichtry from Switzerland led the Girls Division after first round action wrapped up in the Global Junior Golf Tour season opener at Durbanville Golf Club on Tuesday.
Sherriff and Meichtry were among only four players that managed to break par on a very windy day in the Western Cape.
Buitendag in control at ProShop Northern Amateur
Jade Buitendag is targeting a maiden provincial victory in the ProShop Northern Amateur after lifting the 36-hole Mabs Abel Trophy at Randpark Golf Club on Monday.
The 20-year-old carded an opening 67 at the Bushwillow Course to share the first round lead with fellow Border native Andre Nel, but pulled away from the chasing pack with a three-under-par 69 to take the outright lead on eight-under-par 136.

The 2014 Proudfoot Trophy winner beat Gordon Neale from Dove Canyon 3 & 2 to advance to the top 16 and defeated 36-year-old Gareth Clements from Country Club Johannesburg 1-up to reach the quarter-finals.

South African number two ranked player Jason Smith safely navigated his way into the last 16 of the Match Play at the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship at Silver Lakes Golf Estate on Wednesday morning.
As the top-ranked SA player left in the draw, the former SA Stroke Play champion ousted fellow Gauteng North amateur Philip Kruse 5&4 with some solid play which yielded four birdies and no drops in a remarkably consistent round of knockout golf.
