Southern Cape duo Bradley de Beer and Christo Lamprecht traded the lead a few times during the final round of the North and South Championship, but a well-timed birdie at the penultimate hole helped De Beer to clinch his first national title at on Thursday. The 16-year-old Fancourt player signed off with an even-par 72 to triumph on one-under-par 215, while Lamprecht from Oubaai returned a 74 to take second on even par.

Herman Loubser, Dylan Mostert and Dylan Naidoo got South Africa’s title defence in the 2016 All-Africa Junior Golf Championship off to a solid start in Sousse, Tunisia on Wednesday. The trio combined for an opening six-over-par 225 at the El Kantaoui Golf Course and the SA team will start the second round with an 11 stroke lead over last year’s silver medallists, Zimbabwe.

Dylan Naidoo from Central Gauteng will lead South Africa’s title defence in the 2016 All-Africa Junior Golf Championship in Sousse, Tunisia today. Naidoo will start the country’s title hunt for an 18^th consecutive victory in the prestigious event at 08h30 alongside Kieran Vincent from Zimbabwe and Patrick Mwendapole from Zambia at the El Kantaoui Golf Course. Scotland’s Craig Ross made it a double for his country when he beat South Africa’s Dylan Naidoo to win the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship at George Golf Club on Friday. The Kirkhill golfer beat Central Gauteng’s Naidoo 3&1 in the final.
Ross’s triumph is the second successive victory by a Scottish golfer in one of South Africa’s premier amateur tournaments, and the fourth win by a Scottish golfer in the last six Sanlam SA Amateur Championships.

Ross came through the quarterfinals with a 5&3 victory over KwaZulu-Natal’s Matt Saulez, and then beat South African number one Marco Steyn 2&1 in the semi-finals.

Zimbabwean Kieran Vincent, the younger brother to American-based professional Scott Vincent, took out South Africa’s number two and three-ranked players on day two of the Sanlam SA Amateur Championship at George Golf Club on Wednesday.
Vincent beat SA number three Herman Loubser on the 21^st hole in round two and knocked out SA number two Tristen Strydom 2&1 in the third round.

Tristen Strydom took his first step towards his goal of regaining his number one ranking in the country when he made it through the first round of the Sanlam SA Amateur Championship at George Golf Club on Tuesday. The Ekurhuleni golfer beat Boland’s Garrick Higgo 2&1.

The presence of a contingent of Indian golfers in this week’s Sanlam South African Amateur Championship in George is further proof of how golf’s return to the Olympics this year is helping the growth of the game in developing countries. The Indian Golf Union (IGU) sent a group of three golfers to play in last month’s African Amateur Championship at Leopard Creek and this week’s Sanlam SA Amateur at George Golf Club.
