Gauteng North have that September swagger again.
It is time for the annual Pick n Pay South African Women’s Inter-Provincial and the defending champions are primed to extend their six year dominance in the country’s most prestigious team championship at Port Elizabeth Golf Club from 24-27 September.

It has been 28 years since Gauteng North last lifted the South African Inter-Provincial title. In fact, the team was still called Northern Transvaal when they celebrated victory in East London Golf Club in 1984.

If one based their chances on the current South African Golf Association’s rankings, this could be the year that Gauteng North changes the course of history at this year's South African Inter-Provincial, sponsored by Tempest.

Nelson Mandela Bay will be awash with the country’s top women golfers when the 53rd Pick n Pay SA Womens Inter-Provincial tees off at Port Elizabeth Golf Club from 24-27 September.

The 18-hole championship layout will provide the stage for four days of intense competition between 16 A- and B- Division teams contesting glory in the country’s largest national team championship.

Home course advantage, resident support and local course knowledge. These are the three elements the North West team are counting on to lay the foundation and deliver a winning punch for A-Section promotion in the 53^rdSouth African Inter-Provincial Championship, sponsored by Tempest, at Rustenburg Golf Club next week.

To reach the end goal, the local favourites will have to get six very determined and confident opponents, including Border, Eastern Province, Ekurhuleni, Free State & Northern Cape, Mpumalanga and 2012 wooden spoon recipient Limpopo, who was relegated in Port Elizabeth last year.

For the first time in the history, two A-Section teams will step into title defence when the 53^rdSouth African Inter-Provincial Championship, sponsored by Tempest, tees off at Rustenburg Golf Club next week.

The Western Province and Boland have shared the unprecedented joint glory for 12 months, but the time has come for a new champion to step up and both teams are determined to go the distance at the SAGA’s flagship team event from 23-27 September.

Rustenburg Golf Club has played host to several prominent professional and amateur events, but this year marks the first time that the North West Province golf club welcomes the South Africa’s most prestigious amateur team event.

South Africa’s leading junior golfers and visitors from nine countries put their talent on display at the end of August during the inaugural Junior Africa Challenge at Zebula Golf Estate and Spa in Bela Bela.

Hosted and presented by S.A. Kids Golf, the international championship drew 80 participants aged between seven and 18 years, who competed in various age divisions. South African Golf Association president Andre Pieterse praised S.A. Kids Golf for their continued commitment to promoting junior golf in South Africa.

Defending champion Henrik Stenson will spearhead the international challenge in the 103rd South African Open Championship at Glendower Golf Club from 21-24 November 2013.

South African Golf Association president Andre Pieterse welcomed the Swede’s decision.

“As the custodians of the South African Open Championship, we are proud of all our past champions and we welcome Henrik’s decision to come back and defend his title,” Pieterse said. “Our amateurs are always looking for idols to aspire to and Henrik has definitely inspired, not only with his success since last year, but with his grit, determination and work ethic. Nobuhle Dlamini, Kim Williams, Lara Weinstein and Emma-Jo du Bruyn representing the University of Pretoria’s HPC Womens Team took the overall lead in the second round and successfully held on to win the Womens Competition, while the HPC Mens side claimed a wire-to-wire victory in the invitation-only quadrangle tournament against St Andrews University, the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) and the Scandinavian School of Golf.
