Dean O'Riley and Steve Ferreira recorded a level par 140 to finish 3rd in the 36 hole New Zealand Foursomes Championship played today at the Titirangi Golf Club in Auckland.

Bertine Strauss is perfectly placed to win her first Sanlam SA Women's Amateur Strokeplay title after a second round 72 moved her to within striking distance of leaders going into the final round at Royal Cape Golf Club.

The four players who made up the South African team, which finished second in the Southern Cross Cup last week, have entered the 36 hole New Zealand Foursomes Championship which starts tomorrow at Titirangi Golf Club in Auckland.

The South African amateur golf team beat Argentina, the defending champions, 4 and 2, in the final round of the 2009 Southern Cross Cup, to finish second for the fourth consecutive time.

JG Claassen continued his rich vein of form when he won the 2009 Zimbabwe Amateur Golf Championship yesterday, played over 72 holes of stroke play at the Royal Harare Golf Club. He finished on 277, eleven under par, one shot clear of a leader board that was dominated by the South African Zone VI team.

On current form, top SA ladies Rustenburg's Bertine Strauss and Kim Williams (Centurion), both on +1, should be battling it out for top honours at the Sanlam SA Women's Amateur Championships to be played at Royal Cape Golf Club from 19 to 24 April. However, this event may be remembered as the tournament when, for the first time, women golfers from six African states threatened to present a strong challenge to their South African hosts.
