SAN LAMEER, 5 July 2025 – Cindy Moreki delivered a sensational final-round level-par 72 and the best round in the Silver Division to clinch her first national title with a five-shot victory in the 2025 Nomads SA Girls Championship at San Lameer Country Club.
The 17-year-old from Emfuleni in Central Gauteng, who attends St Francis Catholic School in South Carolina and trains full-time at the Junior Players Golf Academy (JPGA), put a pair of opening 90s behind her in spectacular fashion.
Her final round, featuring six birdies, four bogeys, and a double-bogey, saw her finish the 54-hole tournament on 36-over-par.
Chantay-Lee Visser, who had shared the 36-hole lead with Marile Hinds at 29-over – a full seven strokes ahead of Moreki – closed with a 12-over 84 to take second. Hinds slipped to a tie for fourth with Erin-Leigh Arnold, while Milani Sikhonde’s closing 81 saw her finish third.
“It feels awesome,” said an emotional Moreki. “The first two days weren’t the best, but I just think my brother John should get all the credit. He was up with me at five in the morning and spent all the afternoons helping me practice. It was amazing to be here and to play the way I did today.”

After back-to-back rounds of 43 and 47 – and no birdies in her first 36 holes – Moreki might have been forgiven for thinking her chances were gone. Her scorecard from the opening two rounds included 10 double-bogeys or worse and 15 bogeys.
But her final round began with a flourish: three birdies in the first seven holes had her climbing the leaderboard. Though she doubled the ninth, Moreki responded with three more birdies from the 10th to 13th. Despite finishing with four consecutive bogeys, her lead was unassailable as her rivals faltered.
“I don’t see my parents very often since I’m at school in the USA, so having them here for my first tournament back and winning it, is the best feeling ever,” she said. “Having my brother on the bag made it even more special.”
Moreki also praised the organisers: “It’s great that GolfRSA and the Nomads put on this tournament for us. Being able to play was a gift, and to win it is super-special.”
