HNA Update: Migrated Handicap Stable

The migration follows a strategic decision to move away from HNA’s previous long-standing European software provider after a change in ownership shifted the company’s focus away from supporting national handicap services. In addition, the legacy platform required a significant upgrade to remain fit for purpose.
After conducting a comprehensive global review, HNA selected DotGolf as its new system partner. DotGolf is jointly owned by The R&A and Golf New Zealand, and its platform is currently used across major golfing nations including England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, Japan and New Zealand.
While the core system is fully operational, HNA has acknowledged that certain localised features are still being refined to meet South African requirements:
“No Return” Scores
HNA is currently resolving a technical issue relating to the submission of “No Return” (NR) scores. Until this functionality is fully restored, golfers requiring the removal of an NR round are advised to contact either the HNA administrative office or their club administrator for assistance.
Accessing the New System
Golfers are required to activate their accounts before using the new platform.
- The “HNA Handicaps” iOS and Android Apps are fully operational and available via the respective stores. Users are advised to ensure they are running the latest version.
- All members can access also the fully functional website at www.handicaps.co.za to enter scores and view handicap histories.
Step-by-step activation and usage guides are available online.
Club Software Integration
Some third-party club software providers are still completing integration with the new HNA platform. At certain clubs, Course Handicap and Competition Playing Handicap information may not yet be automatically available at check-in. These integrations are expected to be finalised soon.
Transition Measures
To ensure fairness during the transition period:
- Late score entry penalties have been temporarily suspended.
- Golfers are encouraged to submit any outstanding scores via the app, website or their club administrator.
- Peer review functionality remains available through the platform’s search features.
HNA acknowledges that the migration process presented challenges but reiterates its commitment to delivering a world-leading handicap system for South African golfers. The organisation confirms that it continues to work closely with DotGolf to resolve remaining service refinements and enhance the app in line with user needs over the coming weeks.
